His value for academia and medicine led him to complete research in carotid diseases and cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Atoot’s research was published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases and Diagnosis. Additionally, his great appreciation for strong education led him to become a teacher’s assistant as a college and medical student. His parents had always taught him that one could only truly master a skill once he or she is able to teach the skill to others. Dr. Atoot continues to fulfill his passion for education by training medical students and residents to date.
Patient-centered care is at the forefront of Dr. Atoot’s philosophy. Dr. Atoot values the time he spends with his patients and provides each patient with the quality care they deserve. He believes that each patient is different and needs his or her individualized treatment plan that fits their own lifestyle and needs. Dr. Atoot believes in strong and effective preventative care. He plans to fulfill his commitment to the community through outreach programs that will promote preventative measures. When it comes to his patients, Dr. Atoot stated “Curing or treating a patient who has a disease or illness is certainly something I strive to do everyday in my practice. However, nothing gives me more pleasure than when we prevent a disease from happening in the first place. Prevention of pathology is key for a healthy and long life. Instead of treating the cancer, catch it when it’s a small nodule or a small polyp and prevent it from progressing. Instead of treating the diabetes, help the person who is overweight lose the extra pounds and stop him/her from having diabetes all together. That is my philosophy. And here at Riverside, I feel that I have all the resources available for me as a doctor to achieve this goal.”
