Biography

Dr. Daniel Akpalu obtained his medical school degree from Zaporizhzhia State Medical University in Ukraine in 1996 and had his internship in Pediatrics and Surgery in Ghana between 1996-1998 before relocating to the US in 1998. He had his residency training in General Pediatrics from Mt. Sinai Hospital Residency training program at Jersey City Medical Center in New Jersey from 2000- 2003. As a chief resident, from 2002-2003, he was in charge of scheduling, overseeing and mentoring junior residents and interns in the residency program.

After completing the residency program in 2003, he took the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) Certification examination and passed. He also passed the ABP maintenance of certification (MOC) exams in 2013 which makes his board certification current.

Dr. Akpalu has been practicing primarily as Pediatric Hospitalist and Pediatric Emergency Room attending since graduating from residency and he also enjoys teaching medical students and residents.

He has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP) since 2004 and a non tenure Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Robertwood Johnson Medical School and Rowan University of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Akpalu enjoys traveling back and forth to his home country Ghana to help in healthcare delivery to the underserved as a way of giving back to the community. He is fluent in Russian and Basic medical Spanish. The Hippocratic Oath is the main guiding principle in what he does and his personal philosophy is from one of the quotes of President Theodore Roosevelt “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care."
