Question: Where are you from?

Dr. John: Bergen County, New Jersey

Question: When did you know you wanted to become a doctor?

Dr. John: Always. My parents were both in the medical field. I think ever since middle school I was headed in that direction. I was good at science and good at math. I hated English.

Question: Where did you go to school?

Dr. John: I went to Boston College and graduated in 2001. I attended UMDNJ and did my residency at Montefiore Children’s Hospital. I moved to New Jersey in 2007, and I’ve been with Riverside since 2008. I’m currently board-certified in pediatrics.

Question: How would you describe your bedside manner?

Dr. John: Friendly and patient.

Question: What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Dr. John: Definitely spending time with the children, especially the babies and the toddlers. I really enjoy the well visits and teaching healthy choices and habits for children. It’s also nice to see when kids get better, to see them healthy after they’ve been sick. It’s great to see that improvement.

Question: What is the most important thing for a patient to look for in a physician?

Dr. John: Knowledge is the most important thing. But also caring and compassion for both their child and their family.

Question: What’s the best thing parents can do to keep their children healthy?

Dr. John: Encourage healthy lifestyles and choices at an early age. Things like healthy diets, getting outside, moving around from the very beginning and doing it as a family. Setting good examples for their children early on is really important.

Question: If you could give advice to parents in general, what would it be?

Dr. John: Don’t be so worried about every little thing. Kids are very resilient and most things get better. Just don’t worry so much and don’t stress yourself out over the small things.

Question: Tell us something most patients don’t know about you.

Dr. John: I used to do a lot of singing in my church, and sang Acapella in college. I was in a group called the Boston College Dynamics.

Question: Do you have any kids of your own?

Dr. John: Yes. I have a three year-old, Xander, a one year-old, Isaac, and one more on the way, a girl. We’re very excited about that.

Question: What is your favorite movie of all time?

Dr. John: You’re going to laugh when I say this; Titanic. I saw that movie like six times in the movie theater. I still won’t change the channel when I see it on TV.

Question: Where is the best place to eat in Hoboken?

Dr. John: I like the pizza at Napoli’s, I know a lot of people prefer Grimaldi’s but I really like Napoli’s.

Question: What is your favorite part of Hoboken?

Dr. John: I like that there are so many young families here and how much there is for them to do. I also really like the pier, the whole waterfront.

Question: Who is your inspiration?

Dr. John: My mom and my dad. They moved here from India with nothing and managed to make a really good life for my sisters and me, putting all three of us through private colleges.
